Modification to Address Recent Windows 10 Sign-In Errors: March 25

Posted:

In recent weeks, several people on campus have reported problems signing in to the new build of Windows 10. The two most common errors received are

  • "Windows couldn't connect to the User Profile Service."
  • "Group Policy client service failed the sign in. Access is denied."

This currently affects only a small percentage of people on campus; however, an increasing number of people will be affected as more devices with this build are added to the fleet of Windows computers on campus.

To address this issue, Information Technology will apply a slight modification to faculty, staff, and student network user profiles on Monday, March 25. Essentially, this will adjust how the Z: drive (personal drive) is mapped when logging on. There will be no change in appearance or functionality.

We don’t expect the change to negatively affect users in any way; however, if you notice a problem after the modification is made on Monday, please open a ticket and describe the problem.
